Newest Blogroll | MarketplaceAlternative Capital Investment On alternative energy Investment Advice Investing in alternative energy, or "green power" may seem like the only place on the bright horizon. As stories circulate about peak oil and the prospect of running out of fossil fuels, investment in alternative energy seems like common sense. But here are some things you should consider before you convert your portfolio into alternative fuels. The wind and solar energy industry is still relatively new and capital intensive. Many research and development is still necessary to create products and delivery systems that will be affordable for consumers. When looking for new businesses to invest, it is important to determine whether or not they are sufficiently capitalized for the long term. Many new alternative energy companies have been launched in recent years in response to high oil prices, but oil prices drop to more affordable levels, demand for alternative energy is softening, and some of these new alternative energy companies find themselves with money flow problems. This means that due diligence before investing is just as important in the area of alternative fuels as it is in any other sector. Recently, it seems to have been a misconception that any stock that was "alternative" or "green" was a sure bet. It is simply not true. A strong balance sheet and cash flow in good health is more important than ever. Perhaps more importantly, because of the volatility of energy markets right now and for decades to come. It also makes good business sense to remember that energy companies are more alternative start-ups, long pieces of material without success. This simply means they are inherently more risky than established businesses, regardless of the attractiveness of thinking "green" energy can be. So, treat them as you would any growth stocks at high risk in terms of our overall portfolio strategy. A good way to invest in alterative fuels if you are philosophically motivated in that direction, yet certain threshold mitigate risks is to invest in energy companies that are established in the growing sector of alternative fuels. Although the idea of investing in one of the major oil companies do not seem to be very "green" on the surface, the fact is they are actively involved in research and development of alternative fuels as well. So, find existing energy companies who put more effort and resources by providing viable alternatives in the near future perhaps the smartest way to safely invest in alternative fuels today.
