Nasdaq 100 Index Nasdaq 100 Index is one of the largest financial companies not listed on the Nasdaq 100 Stock Exchange. This index is a weighted value. Nasdaq 100 does not contain financial companies. This index is therefore different from the S & P500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI Dow 30 or simply DOW).
Nasdaq 100 began January 31, 1985. NASDAQ Financial -100 Index was introduced the same day that the Nasdaq 100. This explains why financial companies were and are still excluded from the Nasdaq 100.
The common abbreviation Nasdaq 100 is NDX and the NQ is the abbreviation for the E-mini index.
To be included in the Nasdaq 100 Index a security must meet many criteria such that there must be a non-financial, should not be part of a bankruptcy proceeding, only one class of securities by the Issuer is authorized and much more.
On December 1, 2004, the Nasdaq 100 QQQ symbol was changed in four letter symbol QQQQ .
There are several advantages to trading Nasdaq 100 stocks. These advantages include: you can buy and sell at any time during the trading day, one can gain a broad market portfolio, we have the opportunity to buy on margin and there is no management and sponsor fees, to name a few.

Some trading strategies for the Powershares QQQ include: long-term investments which means that it could be a good choice for retirement accounts or other types of long-term investments, short selling or other words you are allowed to sell soon after the price is already down, which in turn allows it to respond more effectively to economic downturns and trading on margin which means that finally Powershares may be bought on margin.
